Chennai Soft Power 30

Being located in Chennai, which is undoubtedly one of India’s foremost cultural capitals, The Center for Soft Power has undertaken a project to document those performing artists from Chennai who have acted as India’s Soft Power Assets globally. This project will take the form of interviews with 30 of Chennai’s most internationally recognized performing artists, and will look at their journeys and how they have spread Indian culture through their art, at the global level.

In 1974, his Tour with Pandit Ravi Shankar and George Harrison (From The Beatles) was a 60-day tour of USA with around 68 concerts and served as a launch of George’s record label, Dark Horse Records. Bob Dylan so very much wished TVG ji to stay back which he did not. The Swiss Govt had also invited TVG ji to perform while ICCR has sponsored his trip to Kazhakistan. TVG ji celebrates his journey across the world along with the many foreign students in his school AIMA -Academy of Indian Music & Arts. When the 86-year-young maestro walked to the stage to receive his Ph.D. recently, many came to know that he had mentored renowned music directors like Ilaiyaraja and A R Rahman! “The world loves our music because of its discipline, “ he says energetically.
